A social deduction game is one that forces players to work together to find information about others that will help either team win the game such in games like “Among Us” and “Werewolf”. In games like these, deception of the enemy is key and sometimes the only way out of certain situations for the players. The design of the games force players to cooperate with each other and in games like “President” and “Among Us” this can also lead to whacky situations that don’t necessarily help the objective of the game. For instance, when we had a traveler in our last round of president I was on the red team. I had figured out the bomber minutes into the round and I had a suspicion that the president wasn’t in the room with us. Since I knew who the traveler was as well, me and my red teammates devised a plan to send the traveler as bait for the blue team in hopes that they would send him back to us as a trap to keep the president in the room with our bomber which led to fun and interesting moments between me and my red teammates in the room and the blue teammates who were getting outvoted constantly. Overall, my experience playing the social deduction games we played in class was among my favorite games we’ve played so far and is in general a favorite genre of mine. The feeling you get playing games like these is always a rush, the hard work you put in throughout the round builds up in anticipation to the big finish at the very end. I felt this especially when we played president because not being able to see the other room and not knowing whos who in the other room adds randomness and chance to the game.
